Abstract

731,939. Metal strip feeds. SUPER METAL STAMPINGS, Ltd. June 4, 1953 [June 10, 1952], No. 14608/52. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XVI] A strip feeding device includes means for gripping the strip material to be fed into a machine, said means being carried by a block reciprocable in guides by a double - acting pneumatic cylinder, the operation of which is controlled by valves operated synchronously with the operation of the machine. Strip gripping means, reciprocated by pneumatic piston and cylinder means 9, 10, comprises a block 7 in which is slidable a pad 15, moved down by a pneumatically operated diaphragm 19 to clamp the strip, passed through a slit 13 in the block 7, against the block on the forward stroke of the gripping means. Admission of air under pressure to the ends of the cylinder 10 and to the diaphragm 19 is controlled by valves actuated by ]ever means operated by rotary cams in the machine to which the strip is fed. A spring-pressed pawl 23, or pneumatic gripper means similar to that in the block 7 and controlled by the air control valves, prevents movement of the strip during the return stroke of the block 7. An adjustable stop 11 determines the length of the stroke of the gripping means.
