731,419. Photographic developing compositions. KODAK, Ltd. June 26, 1953 [June 26, 1952], No. 29532/54. Divided out of 731,407. Class 98 (2). A single-powder photographic developing composition containing an organic silver halide developing agent and a photographically compatible basic ingredient consisting of an alkali metal sulphite and/or carbonate, is stabilized by packaging the composition in a closed container in which is positioned a closed permeable bag containing as a stabilizer boric anhydride, metaboric acid, or a mixture of phthalic anhydride with boric anhydride or metaboric acid. As shown, a container 14 contains a single-powder developing composition 16 and a closed small-mesh bag 17 of cloth or paper filled with stabilizer 18, and is closed by a lid 15. In examples 1 to 4, the developing composition consists of metol, hydroquinone, sodium sulphite, sodium carbonate, and potassium bromide, and the bags are (1) a paper bag containing boric anhydride, (2) a cloth bag containing betaboric acid, (3) a paper bag containing boric and phthalic anhydrides, and (4) a cloth bag containing metaboric acid and phthalic anhydride. In examples 5 to 7, the developing composition consists of pyrogallol, sodium sulphite, sodium carbonate, and potassium bromide, and the bags are porous tea bags containing (5) boric anhydride, (6) metaboric acid, and (7) boric and phthalic anhydrides.
