Abstract

731,161. Turbine blades. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. Feb. 5, 1953 [Feb. 11, 1952], No. 3563/52. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A method of making a gas turbine blade capable of being sweat-cooled comprises coating a solid metal core with low melting- point alloy, die-moulding a porous metal layer around the core, heating to sinter the moulded metal and bond it. to the core and then forming coolant supply passages in the component. Around the solid metal core a of a gas turbine blade is moulded a porous metal powder wall b which is subsequently sintered, the bond between the coating and the core being strengthened by first coating the core with a low melting-point alloy. Supply passages c for the coolant are formed by drilling and are in communication with a common supply chamber at or below the root by way of holes of appropriate sizes whereby the supply to each passage c is throttled to a predetermined amount so that the pressures in the passages are regulated to give the correct flow distribution around the blade. Specification 619,634 is referred to.
