Abstract

[Also in Group XIX] In apparatus for transferring or shifting data from a first to a second binary magnetic core storage device employing magnetically remanent cores, a capacitor is charged through a first rectifier by an output pulse produced by the first storage device in switching from one to zero, and discharged in a circuit including a second rectifier and an input coil or coils of the second storage device to switch the latter from zero to one, a bias voltage being applied to the second rectifier to render the discharge circuit ineffective during the charging of the capacitor. In the shifting register shown, each storage device comprises a laminated core 1, 2, 3 ..., of a magnetic material having a rectangular hysteresis loop, having input, output and shift coils such as 6, 7 and 4, and negative shift pulses are applied on line 5 to all the shift coils in series with resistance 11, 13, 14. If, e.g., core 1 is in the one condition when a shift pulse is applied, a capacitor 9 will be charged through a circuit including first rectifier 8 and output coil 7, and the voltage drop produced across resistor 11 prevents discharge of the capacitor through second rectifier 10 and input coil 12 of core 2 until the shift pulse ceases. The transfer circuits between the higher cores are similarly controlled by biasing voltages produced across 13, 14 ..., or, alternatively, a single resistor may be used for all stages. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) each storage device comprises two cores connected in a balanced circuit as described in Specification 706,736.
