Abstract

729,616. Variable-speed. gear. RIEDL, F. April 8, 1953 [Dec. 18, 1952], No. 9583/53. Class 80 (2): [Also in Group XXVI] A variable-speed gear, wherein the speed of the driven shaft 8 is varied from zero to a maximum as the eccentricity of a balanced control disc 26, 28 is varied (see Group XXVI) by a wedge 13 controlled by a lever 16, comprises links 37 connected by pins 32 to the casings 33 of four locking-roller type freewheels, and rollers 31, 41 on the links in contact with the outer part 28 of the control disc to convert the oscillations of the part 28 irto rotation of the free wheels. The free-wheel spindles 35 drive the shaft 8 through gears 42, 7, or in reverse through gears 45, 47, 48, according to the setting of a dog-clutch 49 splined on the shafts 8. The driving shaft 1 is supported between the locking rollers 6<SP>1</SP> of a free-wheel contained in a housing 6 fixed to the gear 7 and forming a bearing for the shaft 8.
