Abstract

729,534. Mineral wool. STILLITE PRODUCTS, Ltd. June 17, 1953 [June 25, 1952], No. 16789/53. Class 56. In making mineral wool fibres molten slag is dropped on to the surface of a spinning rotor 41 from which a multiplicity of fine streams are projected tangentially and these are attenuated into fibres by being intercepted by a highvelocity annular blast emerging from a substantially continuous annular slot 40 in a casing 45 surrounding the rotor. The rotor is cooled by liquid circulating through pipes 25, 29. The slot 49 is discontinued for a short length at 50 to permit the falling molten slag to drop on to the rotor and apertures 51 are provided adjacent the portion 50 to prevent the projected streams from the rotor from interfering with the falling material.
