Each leg-body joint of a walking doll which may be adjusted to a sitting position comprises an axle 3 supported in a body bearing 2 and passing into a bearing 6 secured in the leg 5. The end 8 of the axle is of elongated cross section and, with the doll in the walking position, lies horizontally between portions of a spring 7 positioned in grooves formed in the bearing 6. An extension 18 of the axle 3 engages a horizontal cross piece 19 which is secured to a vertical rod 20 carrying the head and rotatable in a neck block, Fig. 4 (not shown). Upon walking the doll, the extensions 18 engage the cross piece 19 alternately and cause the head to oscillate. To bring the doll to a sitting attitude, the legs are rotated forwardly, the axles 3 rotatirig with the legs until the ends of the axle extensions 18 engage the inner surface of the doll body. Further rotation of the legs forces the leg joints and the legs 5, the bearings 6 and the springs 7 are rotated against the resistance of the springs 7 through 90 degrees relative to the elongated axle ends 8. To return the doll to its walking attitude, the head is held stationary and the legs are rotated backwardly. Means are provided to enable one arm to be secured in a raised position when propelling the doll by gripping the arm (Fig. 4 not shown).
