728,676. Electric liquid heaters. HOBBS, P. W. Sept. 2, 1953 [Sept. 5, 1952], No. 22429/52. Class 39 (3) [Also in Group XXXVII] An electrically heated container for beverages, e.g. a coffee pot, comprises a ceramic body 1 having an opening in its lower part, a cover, e.g. a brass disc 12 for the opening, an electric heating element 18 ... 20 carried by the disc 12, and means, e.g. nuts 14 and studs 15, for clamping the disc 12 in liquid-tight manner in the opening. The elements 18 .. 20 comprise three parallel plates brazed to the disc 12, the inner plate 19 of which is in circuit so long as the pot is plugged into the supply, the outer plates 18, 20 being controlled by a bimetal strip operating at a predetermined temperature to actuate an "over-centre" switch (see Group XXXVII), in a synthetic resin casing screwed, as at 22, to a metal ring 16 held beneath an inturned flange 2 on the pot 1. A neoprene gasket 13 and an asbestos washer 17 separate respectively the disc 12 and ring 16 from the flange 2. A low voltage lamp 42, shunted by a resistance, is in series with the elements 18, 20.
