Abstract

728,288. Semi-conductor devices. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 23, 1952 [Dec. 10, 1951], No. 28887/51. Class 37. A germanium diode or triode is mounted in a metal container consisting of a base 1 through which are sealed two or more pins 2, 3 for connections, and a cover 8 hermetically sealed to the base, the whole being filled with an insulating liquid. The crystal 4 may comprise a PN junction as described in Specifications 727,900 and 728,129 and may be mounted on a fernico sheet 5, which is mounted on pin 3. The pins 2 and 3 may be sealed to the base by glassmetal seals, and pin 2 is connected to the crystal 4 by flexible connector 6. The container 8 is filled with oil through hole 9 which is then sealed. The oil assists cooling of the crystal unit. A third pin may be added for use with a triode arrangement, or the fernico sheet may be directly connected to the base.
