Abstract

The process of the parent Specification, wherein textiles and like materials are dyed or otherwise treated by impregnating them with a hydrosulphite-containing liquor, e.g. a vat or sulphur dye liquor, and then heating them by passage through a molten metal bath, is modified by the addition of sodium nitrite to the hydrosulphite liquor, whereby the formation of sludge in the metal bath is inhibited. The hydrosulphite liquor floats upon the surface of the molten metal. The process is applicable to fabrics, felts, sheets, webs or yarns of cotton, wool, rayon, nylon, glass and synthetic plastic materials. Examples are given.
