Abstract

Textile fabrics containing regenerated cellulose in a proportion significant in causing the fabric to be susceptible to creasing while wet is treated, while free from substantial actual crease marks, in open width with steam under a pressure of at least ten pounds per square inch in excess of atmospheric pressure but at a temperature below that which would cause destruction of the fibres until it has been rendered "wet crease-resisting." The fabric may also be rendered "dry crease-resisting" by subsequently effecting condensation of a thermosetting synthetic resin within and not substantially between the fibres or by subsequently treating the fabric with acid and formaldehyde or acid and glyoxal. The dry crease-resisting process may be effected by application of solutions of methylol urea (e.g. as prepared in Specification 449,243) or methylol melamine or alkylated derivatives thereof together with acid or potentially acid catalysts followed by drying and heat-curing, if desired in the presence of steam. Natural or synthetic rubber, stearamidomethyl pyridinium chloride, octadecyloxymethyl pyridinium chloride, wax emulsions and the polysiloxanes of Specification 695,703 may also be incorporated with the above resin solutions. During or after drying, the impregnated fabric may be subjected to mechanical effects, e.g. calendering, Schreinering, embossing, glazing or pleating. Numerous examples are given in one of which the fabric contains wool in addition to regenerated cellulose. Specification 727,882 is referred to in the first Provisional Specification.
