A fireproof door comprised e.g. of asbestos, or of a mixture including asbestos impregnated with a non-combustible plastic with a skin of plastic, or a veneer incorporating plastic, bonded to the body of the door frame, is provided on at least each vertical edge face with a strip of metal a, or e, the strip a having recesses to receive the movable leaves b of hinge fittings and the opposite strip e having a mortise f cut therein for the reception of a lock. The leaves b are secured to the door frame by screws c which pass through holes in the leaves b and screw into plugs d fitted into sockets perpendicular to the plane of the door. The look is secured by pins engaging plugs similar to the plugs d.
