727,767. Knitting-machines. LIGIER, R., and LIGIER, G. March 6, 1953 [March 8, 1952; July 23, 1952; Sept. 13, 1952; Oct. 8, 1952], No. 6294/53. Class 74 (2). A hand-operated flat knitting machine has a cam carriage from which extends supports for a bar 14 engaging the fabric beneath the needles, but only in the vicinity of the immediately operative needles, to prevent the fabric from moving with the needles when they are projected, and also supports for a combined thread guide 22, latch opener 22a, 22b and means for retaining the needles in their correct plane. The means for retaining the needles in their correct plane may be the lower edge 23a, 23b of the latch opener or alternatively a separate bar 151 secured to the supports for the thread guide and acting on the needles before the latches are effected by the latch opener, Fig. 34. The needle cams of the carriage are interconnected and mutually adjustable, indicating means being provided to enable the degree of movement to be observed. A deflector positioned between the stitch cams is pivoted to engage counter mechanism and is actuated by the needle butts. Yarn tensioning means is provided. The needle bed may be composed of various sections which may be hinged together. Locking means are provided for securing the sections together.
