726,833. Inflatable rafts. ELLIOT EQUIPMENT, Ltd., SHEPHEARD, V. G., CLARKE, J. H., GODFREY, J., and PATTERSON, A. P. Nov. 30, 1953 [Jan. 15, 1953], No. 1249/53. Class 113(1). In an inflatable life raft having an inflatable main buoyancy tube 1 constituting the sides of the raft, a floor 5 attached to said tube, and inflatable arched thwarts 3, 4 secured at the forward and after ends to the main tube 1, an external weather cover 7 is disposed over the arched thwarts and attached to the main buoyancy tube and an internal cover 8 is disposed inside the arched thwarts in spaced relation to the external cover, there being at least one closable entrance 9 in the external cover and at least one closable entrance 10 in the internal cover, the entrances in the two covers being shaped and located in relation to each other such that an intending occupant of the raft can climb through the entrances into the life raft. When the raft is in use in arctic conditions the mouths of the entrances are drawn together with a draw-string. In tropical conditions the inner entry mouth of each double entrance is tied back with tape and the outer entry mouth is propped open with poles 11 to form an airchute. The poles 11 may be inflatable tubular props. Specification 726,832 is referred to.
