Abstract

726,059. Toy horses. BUSSOLINO, T. Jan. 12,1953, No. 912/53. Classes 136(1) and 136(3). In a toy horse comprising a fore body portion 1 and a hind body portion 2 hingedly connected at 3, each having a pair of legs on the lower ends of which rotatably mounted wheels 4, 8 are provided, and means for permitting rotation of the wheels simultaneously in one direction of rotation only, the fore body portion 1 carrying a saddle 5 overlapping a part of the upper side of the hind body portion to limit the extent of relative movement in one direction of the body portions 1, 2, the horse being propelled by changing the weight bearing on the saddle, the saddle 5 is fixedly connected to the fore body portion 1, a spring 9 is provided to maintain the portions 1, 2 in a position in which the end of the saddle 5 overlapping the hind portion 2 is spaced therefrom and the distance between the ends of the fore and hind legs becomes the smallest, a pair of stirrups 7 being fixedly connected to the fore body portion 1. As shown in Fig. 4, the spring 9 is formed as a double helical spring wound on the hinge pivot 3. The ends 10 of the spring bear against the saddle 5 and a central part 11 is connected to a link 12 which has a screw threaded end for a nut 13 abutting a member 14 fixed to the rear portion 2 of the horse. Shock damping springs 15 are secured to the hind portion 2. Steering is effected by bridles 34, Fig. 5, which are connected by bell crank levers 32, 33 and cables 30 to bell crank levers 28 which on actuation of the bridles rotate front wheel supporting rod 27 against the action of restoring springs 25. Free wheel devices are fitted to the four horse wheels each consisting of an oscillating stirrup 17 or 18, Fig. 6, hinged to the support of each wheel and adhering by virtue of its own weight to the rubber-lined wheel periphery on the rear portion of the wheel. A second set of stirrups 19 are held away from the front of the wheels by the stirrups 17, 18. To apply the brake the stirrups 17, 18 are lifted by four cables 20 connected by a cable 21 to the reins 26. A spring 16 is provided to damp the shock when the rider transfers his weight from the stirrups 7 to the saddle 5.
