Abstract
724,779. Sealing envelopes. TOMKINS, J. Jan. 14, 1953, No. 1065/53. Class 94 (1). A device for sealing envelopes comprises a pivoted surface 3 which is tilted by a handle (not shown) to fold the envelope flap onto the envelope against a table 1, and a moistening device 10 which temporarily contacts the flap during folding. The moistener consists of a water trough 16 and a felt etc. cover 17, the moistener normally being held tilted by a finger 12 contacting a lever 13. pivoted to a fixed element 8. As the surface 3 moves, a pin thereon trips the lever 13, and finger 12, permitting the moistener to swing against the advancing envelope flap, a cam 7 on the surface 3 then swinging it clear again. The lever 13 is weighted so that it again contacts the finger 12 when the surface 3 returns. The device may be motor operated.
