Abstract

724,129. Glazing windows. WILLIAMS & WILLIAMS, Ltd. May 18, 1953 [June 11, 1952], No. 14740/52. Class 20 (3). A window frame assembly comprises glass supporting frame members A, A<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, each of which has an inwardly projecting longitudinal rib A' adjacent to one edge, channel-section clips each having its base C secured to the inner face of the arm A<SP>3</SP> of a frame member with the sides C<SP>1</SP> of the channel extending away from the frame and lying approximately parallel to the rib A<SP>4</SP>, outwardly projecting ribs C<SP>2</SP> formed at the free edges of the sides C<SP>1</SP> of the clip and a channel-section glazing bead formed with grooves D<SP>2</SP> along its inner faces so as to fit over the clips with the ribs C<SP>2</SP> engaging the grooves D<SP>2</SP>. Each clip is secured by a screw C<SP>3</SP> passing through the base C of the clip and engaging a screw-threaded hole in the frame member, or a nut-and-bolt may be used or in another form one or more pairs of spring fingers integral with, or secured to, the clip project from the base thereof and engage an aperture in the frame member. The channel-section bead has its sides D<SP>1</SP> tapering inwardly either by having the sides of tapering thickness as shown, or by sloping them slightly outwards from the base D. In a modification, Fig. 4, each clip has sides C<SP>6</SP>, C<SP>7</SP> of unequal depth and the glazing head has sides D<SP>3</SP>, D' which are parallel to each other but not at right angles to the base D<SP>6</SP>, the sides D<SP>3</SP>, D<SP>4</SP> having their lower ends in contact with the part A<SP>3</SP>. In a further form in which the sides of the clip are of equal depth, the bead has wider grooves and each clip has its ribs formed part cylindrical so that on pulling the bead it will be removed without damage. Putty E is applied around the edge of the glass B. According to the Provisional Specification some of the parts may be made from moulded plastic material and in the case where the sides of the clip members are of unequal depth the side of the glazing bead which is nearest to the glass may be shallow so that its bottom edge does not contact the frame member.
