Abstract
723,684. Winding dynamo-electric machines. STANDARD COIL PRODUCTS CO., Inc. June 4, 1952 [Oct. 10, 1951], No. 14116/52. Class 35. Wires are wound simultaneously into each of the slots of a stator by means of stationary needles carrying the wires into the slots while the stator alternately reciprocates and rotates to wind the wires over a pole-pitch. The stator 130, which in the form shown has twelve slots to carry a three-phase winding, is mounted in a reciprocating carriage 25 which is guided by rails 28 engaging slots 16 in the base-plate and is reciprocated by a crank 63 and a connecting- rod 65 having an adjustable degree of lost-motion provided by a slot 64. The bore of the stator is engaged by a pair of tubular members 150, 160 extending from either end towards the centre of the stator bore and having radial tongues extending into the slots. These members are mounted together with supporting plates 50 which carry the weight of the stator, on a pair of circular end plates 40, 41 supported for rotation by rollers 30, 31, 32 attached to the end-plates 26, 27 of the reciprocating carriage. Rotational oscillation is achieved by means of the alternate engagement of the driving gear 223 with wheels 222 and 225 due to the reciprocatory motion of the carriage. Wires 101 are fed into a hollow tube 100 and pass out through the hollow radial needles 131 into the stator. The alternate axial and turning motion of the stator winds the wires round the slots of 90 degree pitch, the tongues serving to provide winding space and guiding the end loops. The finished stator is removed by withdrawing the tubular member 160 and its supporting shaft 161 in an axial direction as shown.
