Abstract

722,846. Induction heating. ELECTRIC FURNACE CO., Ltd. June 11, 1953 [July 16, 1952], No. 18019/52. Class 39 (3) [Also in Group XXII] A method of induction heating of bar stock which includes performing a succession of intermittent main heating cycles each comprising heating to a predetermined working temperature, e.g. for forging, the end portion of a length of bar, and then cutting off the said end, each length of bar being replaced by a new length of bar when it becomes too short for further use, is characterized in that the end of each new cold bar is preheated to a temperature below the working temperature over a period corresponding to, and during the performance of, several main heating cycles, and immediately before the new bar is subjected to its first main heating cycle, Suitable apparatus includes three preheating coils 14 and three main heating coils 10, connected in series and in parallel, respectively with a high frequency source 11. An adjustable reactor 15 provides a control of the load taken by the coils 14.
