Class 80 (2) A subsidiary two-speed gear 1 with no neutral position, arranged behind the main gear box 2 operated by a hand lever 12, is operated through a lever 3 by a double-acting servomotor 4 controlled by a pre-selector 7 which is rendered operative only when the clutch pedal 11 is depressed. As shown, compressed air from a tank 8 is supplied to one or other end of a pneumatic servomotor 4 through pipes 5, 5a, depending on the setting of a pre-selector valve 7, when a normally-closed valve 10 is opened by depressing the clutch pedal 11. The clutch may also be pneumatically operated. Alternatively, pre-selection may be by a two-position switch operating electromagnetic valves in the pipes 5, 5a in conjunction with a main switch operated by the pedal 11; or the servometer may comprise a pair of electromagnets controlled by a two-position pre-selector switch and a main pedal-operated switch.
