721,577. Mounting electric-motor rotors. SCHEID, A. M., SCHEID, W. M., and SCHEID, E. M., [trading as VORWERK & CO.]. Nov. 12, 1952 [Nov. 17, 1951], No. 28550/52. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXIV] A vertically mounted electric motor, Fig. 1, has its rotor 14 attached to a cylinder 12 and a live shaft 8, the shaft rotating in plain bearings 6, 7 within a fixed tube 5 and being supported by a ball 9 thrusting against a hardened plate 11. The rotor may be short-circuited by a ring or hub plate. In a modification, Fig. 2, the rotor may be external of and surrounding the stator and be directly attached to the shaft which is supported by a hemispherical end contacting a thrust plate.
