721,243. Treating gases with liquids. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 15, 1953, [July 16, 1952.] No. 17972/52. Class 55 (2). [Also in Group XIII] The sides 1 of the liquid supply trough or troughs at the top of a scrubbing or cooling tower packed with layers of laths 2 are apertured directly above the laths 2 so that liquid can flow directly on to the top edges of the laths in channels, e.g. grooves 4, in vertical alignment with the laths. The downward extensions of the troughs are serrated to prevent unwanted spread of liquid and are preferably in contact with the laths. The apertures may be rectangular, square, oval or circular, preferably with their lower edges chamfered outwardly.
