Abstract
721,005. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 23, 1953 [July 26, 1952], No. 17341/53. Class 35. Hollow rotor conductors have gas inlet holes in the end windings near the core end and gas outlets both in the slot portions to enable the gas to escape to the air gap also in the circumferentially extending portions of the end windings. As shown, at each end of the rotor, two diametrically opposite parts of the space radially under the end windings is partitioned off by members 41, 42 to form an exit space for hydrogen emerging from the end windings by apertures 48 in their circumferentially extending portions, this gas having entered the end winding by apertures 44 in their axiallyextending portions, and then flown in a direction away from the rotor centre. All the space 32 under the end windings outside the members 41, 42 is supplied with hydrogen by fans 38 and this has unimpeded access to the inlet apertures 44. In addition to the hydrogen flowing through the end windings, some which enters by the same inlets 44 flows along the hollow slot conductors towards the centre of the air gap and thence into the air gap. Hydrogen discharged from the end windings through exits 48 is also conveyed to the air gap by passages 49.
