A chair of the kind which is convertible for use as an easy chair or as a dining- room chair and comprising side frames interconnected by transverse members and a combined seat and back unit arranged for tilting between the side frames on a fixed horizontal axis is characterized in that the abutment on the frame upon which the seat rests when in easy.chair position is lower than that upon which the seat rests when in dining-room position. The tilting pivot 10 passes through the side frames and through one member, say 8, of the seat and back unit at a position displaced from the junction 12 of the members of the unit. In position as an easy chair the member 9 rests on the cross member 6 of the frame 1 and constitutes the seat and the member 8 forms the back rest. In the dining-room chair position the member 8 rests on the cross member 7 and forms the seat, the member 9 forming the back rest. The seat in the dining- room chair position is situated in a more elevated position than that in the easy-chair position. Locking arrangements may be provided for use in the dining-room chair position.
