Abstract

718,043. Switch cases. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 30 1953 [Feb 1, 1952], No. 2755/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXVI] A case for electrical apparatus, e.g. a protective relay, comprises an outer container formed of a U-shaped metal part 1 closed at the top and bottom by insulating blocks 2, 3, and having a flange 4 at its front to which a cover (not shown) is fixed. A cradle for supporting the relay comprises front and rear inverted U-shaped frames 13 connected near the top and bottom by strips 14, 15, which engage ribs 16, 17 formed on the blocks 2, 3 when the cradle is slid into the container. When the cradle is in position a series of contact strips 20 thereon engages a corresponding series of strips 9 on the block 3 to complete a number of circuits to the relay (see Group XXXVI). In order to automatically open the circuit controlled by the relay when the cradle is removed a switch 34 is mounted on the cradle and has an operating arm 35 engaged by a projection 36 on a member 37 slidable on screws 19 on the cradle and biased forwardly by a spring 38, whereby when the front cover is removed the spring moves the member 37 to permit the switch to open.
