Classes 103(4) and 108(1) [Also in Group XXX] A cylindrical or elliptical container for powdered material such as cement, coal dust &c. may be mounted for tipping on a road or rail vehicle and is provided with an end part 13 of offset conical shape to form a discharge spout, which spout is connected to a discharge pipe 9 and is controlled by a rotary valve plate operated by a handle 19. To help discharge, the marterial is aerated by compressed air or gas forced from pipes 30, 31 into a space 28, Fig. 6, which is between a cover plate 26, and a strip 24 of permeable material such as latex foam sandwiched between perforated plates 22, 23. The compressed air is also supplied to ports disposed in the pipe 9 to assist the flow of material along the pipe. The container may be hermetically closed and provided at each end with a part 13 and air discharging apparatus, and may be tipped from either end.
