Class 103(4) A support for a car coupler includes a striking casting 10 having a top wall 28 and spaced side walls 30, depending from said top wall, and a support member r : 16 bridging the lower ends of the walls 30 and being detachably secured thereto by means of rivets 42 which pass through aligned holes in ears 40 depending from outwardly extending flanges 38 at the lower ends of the walls 30 and lugs 58 on the member 16. A coupler shank 22 is carried on a member 18 which is resiliently mounted by springs 20 seated on the support member 16. Upward movement of the carrier 18 is limited by engagement of shoulders 45 thereon with flanges 44 on the walls 30. The carrier 18 is movable downwardly in response to downward angling of the coupler. The striking casting 10 is secured to the car centre sill 12 and end sill 14 and has a front abutment portion 34 for engagement with the horn 36 of the coupler. A transverse yoke support plate 26 is carried by the casting 10. Openings 54 are provided in the member 16 for the 'e inspection of the springs 20. In a modification a pair of attachment ears 70 on each side wall 30, Fig. 7, are attached to three spaced lugs 72 on the member 16 by means of a bolt 74. In a further modification a support member 80 is so constructed that it may be secured to the striking casting 10 to provide a support -for the resiliently mounted carrier 18, Fig. 8, or it may be reversed, as shown in Fig. 11, to provide a rigid support for a coupler of the non- interlocking type.
