Abstract

717,043. Feeding sheets. LANG, K. T. Aug. 21, 1951 [Sept. 4, 1950; Sept. 4, 1950], No. 19646/51. Class 100 (1) A device for creating and conveying a continuous line of sheets for printing comprises at least two separator members a, b, c, Figs. 2, 3, which successively come within range of one end of the sheet pile and have nozzles for suction or blast arranged at two places 3, 4 of their surfaces adapted to lift the front end of the sheet and trans er it to the opposite surface of the following separator which carries it to the sheet conveyer 2. The separators are mounted to move on a circular path and at the same time perform a tilting motion. Movement in a circular path may be effected by parallel cranks and the tilting by a bell-crank lever one arm of which is connected to the separator and the other arm of which is slotted for movement over a fixed pin, the position of the fixed pin is adjustable to regulate the degree of tilting. The separators are connected to suction and air-pressure pines there being controlling means to apply suction or pressure to the nozz'e parts 3, 4 of each separator so that the sheets are picked up and dropped again at the proper times. The operation of the device is seen from Figs. 2, 3. In Fig. 2 the top sheet I is being picked up by surface 3 of separator a while the previously picked up sheet III is released by air blast from separator c and transferred to the upper surface 4 of separator a. Fig. 3 shows the next stage in which the top sheet I is detached from the pile 1 by separator a and an air blast from surface 3 of separator b. On further rotation the sheet III on the surface 4 of separator a is transferred to the sheet conveyer 2 in the manner of sheet II shown being transferred by separator c. The next sheet is then picked up by separator b and the process repeated. Fig. 6 shows the sheet conveyer which comprises a pair of rollers 20, 21 and a perforated pulley belt 22. Suction nozzles 24 under the belt cause sheets 1 fed to the guide to be gripped and brought forward to sheet registering means 25. The nozzles 24 are adjustable longitudinally and transversely of the belt.
