Abstract
716,868. Electrostatic filters. HEINRICH, D. O. Jan. 21, 1952 [April 13, 1951], No. 8621/51. Class 39(1) An electrostatic precipitator comprises collecting electrodes having convex surfaces fully exposed to the gas stream and other parts which are shielded from the gas stream. and the exposed convex parts consist of or are coated with insulating or semi-conducting material so that there is built-up on these parts a potential such as to repel particles from them. The electrodes may comprise a series of finned members 1, Fig. 1 or shoot members 7. Fig. 3, having large openings 10 for the entry of dust and central members provided with bulges 11 for concentrating the electric field lines. Insulating or semi-conducting coatings are shown at 3 and 12. In another arrangement, Fig. 2 a wire screen 5 having coatings 6 on the outer surfaces of the wires, are provided in front of the actual collecting electrode 4. The coatings may comprise silicone enamel paint, or the electrodes may consist of aluminium, magnesium or one of their alloys and the coatings are produced by electrolytic or chemical oxidation or nitration. A conducting layer of material may be provided on top of the insulating or semi-conducting material.
