Abstract

716,096. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 17, 1952 [Nov. 29, 1951], No. 28972/52. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] A bimetal 11 forming part of an electric switch, (see Group XXXVII), is of heartshape, apertured at 22 and mounted at 16, e.g. by spot welding, to a spherical projection 17 on a member 36. The bimetal is stressed to draw the sides 30, 31 together by forming an indentation 27 therein. The concave side may have the higher expansion coefficient whereby on temperature increase the bimetal inverts and a contact 18 thereon leaves a fixed contact 19. The bimetal may alternatively have its normally convex side with the higher expansion coefficient and invert upon a decrease of temperature. Further, the indentation 27 may be alternatively formed in the portion 23 of the bimetal.
