Abstract

The wash-fastness of dyeings produced with vat or sulphur dyestuffs is improved by after-treatment with a solution of a peralkylated polyalkylene polyamine and a sulphonic acid of an aromatic nitro compound. The loss of colour due to reducing agents used for sizing is thereby avoided. In the examples there are used a permethylated ethylene imine polymer and sodium m-nitrobenzene-sulphonate on dyeings made with Hydron Blue R on cotton and Indanthrene Blue 5G and Indocarbone CL on rayon. The peralkylated compounds of Specification 435,388 may be used. Specification 683,251 also is referred to.
