Abstract

715,277. Machines with permanent magnets. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1952 [Aug. 22, 1951], No. 19813/51. Class 35 The invention resides in the provision of a thin non-magnetic partition in permanent magnet generators, e.g. inductor or rotating magnet type. These generators are adapted for direct mounting on jet turbine engines as tachometer generators. Fig. 1 shows an inductor generator consisting of a disc 33 with upset rims 37, 38 respectively soldered &c. to the stator part 30 and to a cylindrical pole-piece 36 of the magnet 40. Thus this partition completely separates the rotating toothed inductor 42 from the stator windings 34. The stator in a die-cast non- magnetic casing 55 comprises the magnet 40, winding 34, magnet yoke 32 and the steel cylinder 30 having teeth 31 within which the toothed inductor disc 42 rotates. Fig. 4 shows a magneto with a rotating magnet 8 which is completely separated from the stator by a cup-shaped partition 5. The latter is closely fitted on to the four laminated salient poles 1. For magnet temperature compensation a temperaturecompensation ring 9 is fitted at one end of the magnet on the shaft 12. The Specification describes other methods of fixing the cup-shaped partition as e.g. in Fig. 5 (not shown), wherein the cup is cast about the stator pole-pieces. In all these disposition of the partition, the. stator winding is completely separated from the bearings. Besides partitioning the stator from the rotor system, the partition, which is of a high resistance'material with positive resistance-temperature coefficient, is used to compensate (because of its shortcircuit induced currents) for the output voltage drop due to the resistancetemperature coefficient of the generator windings. Specification 732,532, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
