Abstract

<PICT:0714898/III/1> A continuous gas analysis apparatus comprises a fluid jet pump 17 which draws in gas to be tested through a restricted passage 13, mixes it with absorbent liquid supplied through the jet, delivers the mixture to a vessel 20 having a bottom opening immersed below a constant liquid level, and recirculates the gas via pipes 21, 18. A rotary pump 22 withdraws gas from the system at a constant rate, and a monometer 23 indicates the variation of pressure due to the absorption of gas constituents. The inlet 13 is situated within the open end 12 of the gas supply pipe 11. The gas may be purified, e.g. by washing with oil before admission to the absorber. For this purpose gas is drawn from the source 1 by gear pump 5 and mixed with oil supplied by pump 4; the mixture is injected into a wide tube 9 open at the bottom into the body of oil, into which the liquid returns while the gas passes upwardly to the analysis apparatus. The oil floats on the body of absorbent liquid which determines the constant head in the absorber. The indicator 23 may actuate an automatic device for controlling the process in which the gas originates.
