Abstract

714,774. Turnbuckles. SIMPSON-LAWRENCE, Ltd., and MACALLISTER, S. Oct. 30, 1952 [Oct. 31, 1951], No. 25449/51. Class 45. [Also in Group XXV] A stretching or straining turnbuckle device comprises a body member 1 equipped at one end at least with a separately formed split contractile nut forming element, the exterior surface of which is coned for at least a portion of its length, an associated screw-threaded coupling-member engaging the nut forming element, and a locking nut embracing the nut forming element and formed with a coned surface adapted to mate with the. coned surface of the nut forming element, the locking nut being also formed with a screw thread engaging a screw thread on the adjacent end of the body member. As shown the body member is provided with a nut forming element 4, 5 at each end, the elements being attached to the body member 1 by a tongue and slot connection 12. Each element 4 and 5 is partially or wholly split as shown at 10, 11 so that it can be contracted to grip its screw coupling member 2 or 3 by means of the lock nut 6 or 7. In a modification the elements 4, 5 are brazed or welded to the body member 1.
