Abstract

713,164. Typewriters. ORBIS BUEROMASCHINENWERKE GES. March 18, 1950 [March 23, 1949; May 11, 1949], No. 6803/50. Class 100 (4) Construction of keys.-A resiliently mounted operating key for typewriters and like office machines comprises a button 1 with a stem 2 having a relative sliding engagement with a keylever 3 to which it is held by a resilient locking member 9. The key-lever has a slot 4a to receive a spring 5 and rigidly carries a guide 6 of cruciform shape for guiding the stem 2. The upper end of the spring 5 is received in a slot 2a in the stem 2. Notches 7 in the stem 2 are engaged by the locking member 9 which limits upward movement of the stem by engaging the lower side of the guide 6. The locking member may be in the form of a spring wire or spring strip attached to the horizontal portion of the keylever 3 and extending into the notches. In a modification the stem 2 may itself form the locking member by having either outwardly or inwardly directed projections which spring to engage the guide 6 or a recess in the key-lever respectively. In a further embodiment, Fig. 9, the stem is formed from a rod 2 and has a resilient member 17 which latches under a base 19 of a slide 18 on the key-lever. The button 1 and the stem 2 may be moulded in one unit.
