Abstract

713,148. Glass-metal seals. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 23, 1952, [Sept. 26, 1951.] No. 23836/52. Class 36. In sealing an iron member t having a surface layer 2 of chrome iron to a glass member 4, the - iron is removed from beneath the surface layer in the area of the seal, the remaining free chrome iron layer 3 being then sealed to the glass. A tubular iron member as shown may have chrome iron coatings on both the internal and external surfaces, and the invention may also be applied to iron discs or rods which are to be sealed through glass. The iron may be removed by etching, and in order to reinforce the chrome iron layers, which may be left unsupported away from the seal, the space therebetween may be filled up with glass or soldering material.
