Abstract

712,008. Rotary clothes drying apparatus. LOVELL MANUFACTURING CO. June 23, 1952 [July 2, 1951], No. 15731/52. Class 34(2) [Also in Group XI] A clothes drying tumbler having a rotatable drum 4, a cylindrical casing 9 surrounding the drum and a suction fan for withdrawing air from the drum has a removable mounting plate 14 forming part of the casing and carrying the end and outer walls of a gas stove, an air intake 32 at the bottom of the stove, a gas burner 27 above the intake and an outlet 39 for the products of combustion through the plate 14 above the burner. The stove is of triangular section with walls 24, 25 and the back wall 24 has a vent opening 28 beneath a bracket 29 carrying a thermostat 30 and incoming air keeps the therinostat cool but if the fan fails the products of combustion heat the thermostat and it shuts off the gas supply through a solenoid operated valve. To prevent wall 25 getting too hot during use an enclosing wall 34 is held in spaced relation thereto by projections 35 and air flows through the space and through a portion of air inlet slot 13 some of the air entering the stove through a vent 37 to mix with the products of combustion and pass through opening 39 to mix with incoming air from slot 13 and be drawn through the drum by the fan and discharged through an opening at the base of the cabinet, the remainder of slot 13 receiving air from outside the cabinet.
