Abstract
711,378. Electrical cavity resonators. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. July 31, 1952 [Nov. 1, 1951], No. 25598/51. Class 40 (8) A very high frequency cavity resonator system comprises two resonators 1 and 2, coupled together by the ring of eight holes 4, in the metallic diaphragm 3, the holes being so placed that the coupling is in the H 01 mode only. Resonator 1 is relatively small, having a relatively low Q value and operating in the H 01 mode only over the required frequency range. Resonator 2 is relatively large, having a relatively high Q value. The resonators are tuned independently by concentric screw-in probes 5, 6, the latter, for the high Q resonator, passing through a movable piston 7 which is screwed on to the body so that fine tuning is given by probe 6, and coarse tuning by piston 7. The response curve of this arrangement may be regarded as the superimposition of the sharp response of the high Q resonator on the flat response of the low Q resonator in opposition. A band-pass filter of similar construction, but having two high Q resonators and two low Q resonators is described with reference to Figs. 2 and 2a (not shown).
