711,071. Pallets for handling and stacking loads. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. Oct. 13, 1952 [Oct. 12, 1951],.No. 23781/51. Class 78 (4) A pallet has four or more tubes 14 for receiving the lower ends of separately formed stacking posts 18 which are supported by abutment members 15 closing the lower ends of the tubes 14 and adapted for cup and projection engagement with the upper ends of similar posts supported from the next pallet below in a stack. As illustrated to the lower end of each tube 14 is welded (Fig. 3) a member 15 on which the stacking post 18 bears and which is secured at the upper end by a nut and washer 17. Each member 15 is adapted to take into a cup member 19 at the upper end of a post 18. The pallet illustrated is of timber and has pairs of bearer members 10 against the lower faces of which the members 15 abut. The lower ends of the members 15 may be flush with the feet 12 of the pallet as illustrated or may project beyond these feet to form floor engaging members. The nut 17 may be recessed in the upper surface of the pallet. In alternative constructions the pallet may be formed of metal, the elements 15 and 19 may be inverted from the position shown, and the post 18 may have threaded engagement with the members 14 at their lower ends. Suitable walls may be fitted on the pallet.
