710,967. Lens attachments for photographic cameras. KIRCHHOFF, K. Oct. 11, 1951 [Oct. 11, 1950], No. 23726/51. Classes 97(1) and 98(1) A lens attachment for a photographic camera having a main lens and a viewfinder arranged on the camera at a distance from the main lens axis, comprises a parallax eliminating lens or lens system and is constructed so as to be mounted upon the camera in operative position in front of the main lens and viewfinder with its optical axis substantially co-incident with that of the main lens, the thickness and consequently the power of the part of the attachment lens or lens system which is adapted to lie in front of the main lens differing from that of the other part or parts of the attachment lens or lens system, being equal to or greater than the distance of the object to be photographed so as to provide a close-up range smaller that that for which the main camera lens is adapted whereby to eliminate the occurrence of a parallax image in the view-finder. As shown in Fig. 1, the parallax eliminating lens is a spherical lens 1 mounted by a device of any known kind (not shown) with its optical axis in co-incidence with that of the camera lens 2 and constructed so that it covers the lens 2, the lenses 5, 6 of a range-finder on the camera and the lens 4 of a view-finder. To connect for spherical observations, when photographing at very close ranges, a meniscus lens 7, Fig. 3, may be secured to the part of the face of lens 1 adjacent to and in front of the camera lens 2; or this part of the face of lens 1 may be made aspherical. The lens 1 may also be in two separate parts of which the part lying in front of the view-finder and range-finder lenses may be annular. The auxiliary lens or lens system may be achromatic.
