Abstract
The invention comprises 4-amino-2-alkoxybenzamides, in which the alkoxy group contains 2-6 carbon atoms, obtainable by reduction of the nitro group in 4-nitro-2-alkoxybenzoic amides, which may be prepared from the corresponding acids, through the nitrile. Examples describe the conversion of 4-nitro-2-hydroxybenzonitrile to various lower alkyl ethers, followed by conversion to the amide by hydrolysis, the conversion of 4-nitro-2-alkoxybenzoic acids to acid chloride, and amide, and the reduction of the various nitro-alkoxyamides to 4-amino compounds.
