Abstract

710,446. Valves. BATTEN, A. J. Jan. 6, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1952], No. 738/52. Class 135 Two three-way cocks 2, 3 are interconnected by toothed gearing 15 and mechanically connected to a single operating handwheel 24, and actuation of the latter moves the valves simultaneously in opposite senses from a position permitting fluid flow to and from an apparatus to a position shutting off the flow and opening a bye-pass. As applied to a water softening plant, unsoftened water enters at 4, passes up through cock 2, and out to the softener through aside port 9. The softened water enters a side port 10 and passes to the inside of plug 3, and out through conduit 5. When the cocks are rotated the ports connected to the softener are shut off and conduits 4, 5 are interconnected through a bye-pass passage 11. The spindle of the handwheel 24 carries a single tooth 25 engaging a pinion 16 on plug 2. The axial ports leading in from conduits 4, 5 may be replaced by circumferential ports, and the plugs may be housed in separate casings.
