Abstract

In a process for the treatment of molten iron or steel, pig-iron granulate is added to the melt or to pig-iron before charging into a converter. The addition may be made at any time during a conversion process to maintain a constant temperature, and may be added continuously, or in batches. Additions towards the end of the conversion, or in the ladle, are stated to be particularly advantageous, since such additions tend to remove nitrogen.
