Abstract

709,578. Suction end-catchers for roving frames; stop motions. BECHTLER. H. C. Nov. 5, 1951 [Nov. 22, 1950], No. 25879/51. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) [Also in Group XL(b)] A control device for a roving frame equipped with broken-end suction apparatus has a suction duct provided with a source of radiation emitting a beam that affects a device responsive to variation in the intensity of the beam to operate members controlling the drive of the roving frame, so that fibrous material passing through the duct causes the frame to be stopped. In one embodiment, a roving frame is driven by a motor 2 through a shaft 1 and is provided with an air duct 7 having nozzles 8 and connected through a filter box 12 with an air pump 14 driven by a motor 15. Fibrous fragments sucked along the duct 7 travel along the narrow edge of a V-shaped portion of a bend 10 in the duct 7. In this portion they pass across a beam of light from a source 17 directed towards a photo-electric cell 19 which, on interruption of the beam, operates a contactor 27 to stop the motors 2, 15. When re-starting the frame, a time-lag relay 32 causes the motor 15 to start a few seconds after the motor 2. Where the duct 7 is not associated with an individual motor 15, but is connected to a collecting duct common to many machines, an arrangement of valves may be provided so that the duct 7 is by-passed when the frame is stopped. In another form of controlling device, a photo-electric cell and light source may be operative in a subsidiary passage of a bend 10, the fibrous fragments being caused to pass into this subsidiary passage. Another embodiment, in which individual strand suction tubes are coupled with a common duct, has the light source and cell operative across the duct. A signal light may be provided to indicate when the frame is running.
