Abstract

708,465. Moulding butter &c. KUSTNER FRERES & CO., SOC. ANON. Dec. 12, 1951 [Dec. 18, 1950], No. 29123/51. Class 87 (2) ,Plastic edible material is forced in measured quantities from a measuring chamber 5 through a die 6 by means of radially disposed members 1, 2, 3. The butter is fed from a hopper to the measuring chamber 5 by means of two intermittently operated parallel screws 24. A blade 3 slides in a cylindrical member 4 which rotates backwards and forwards between two positions in which the blade comes opposite one of two blade-like pusher members 1, 2 which displace the blade in turn. As shown in Fig. 2, the pusher member 1 displaces the blade'3 in such a manner that a quantity B of butter is enclosed between the blade and the pusher 2. The cylindrical member rotates until the blade 3 comes opposite the pusher 2 which has in the meantime been withdrawn (Fig. 3). A fixed quantity of butter, equal to the quantity B, will be thus extruded through the die 6 where it is cut off by means' of an oscillating wire cutter 27 actuated by a cam 28 on the control shaft 7 of the machine. The cutter may carry two wires one behind the other. This shaft also carries a cam 8 which actuates the pushers 1, 2 by means of links 10, 11 and rack-and-segment gears 14, 15. A further cam 31 actuates the cylindrical member 4 by means of toothed segments 21, 22. In order to adjust the amount of butter extruded in each cycle there may be an adjustable amount of lost motion between the segment 22 and the cylinder 4.
