Abstract
<PICT:0707419/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0707419/IV(a)/2> <PICT:0707419/IV(a)/3> <PICT:0707419/IV(a)/4> <PICT:0707419/IV(a)/5> <PICT:0707419/IV(a)/6> In the after-treatment, such as washing, desulphurization, soaping and drying, of freshly spun rayon filaments travelling in the form of one or more layers of convolutions on a conveyer 1, (Fig. 1) the layers are covered by one or more protecting cloths 2 (preferably endless), which move with the conveyer in such a manner that displacement of the filament convolutions during the after-treatment is prevented. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, two separate protecting cloths 2, 3 may be employed. Various devices for effecting the turning of the filament layer and uncovering of the convolutions at the end of the treatment are described. In one such device (Fig. 7) the conveyer 2a is directed upwardly around rollers 7 and 10. In another such device (Fig. 10), the conveyer 1 and a supporting cloth 2b are each constituted by a number of parallel threads which cross each other. In another device (Fig. 6), the return roller 7 has a surface facilitating adherence of the filament, and adherence may be ensured by utilising roller 7 as a suction roller. The covering and supporting cloths may comprise a net fabric to facilitate passage of treating liquids and hot air. Specification 379,880 is referred to.
