Abstract
707,184. Riveting; riveted joints. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 30, 1953 [Feb. 6, 1952], No. 3171/52. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVI Plates &c. are riveted together by rivets that do not pass completely through both plates. The plate 1 in which the holes are to be blind, has holes drilled part way through, the bottoms of the holes are squarely and finally undercut or chamfered out at 8, Fig. 3. A small vent 7, Fig. 4, may also be drilled through both plates to communicate with the chamber 8. In a modification rivets are used having a number of longitudinal grooves 10 connected by circumferential grooves 9. A set 5<SP>1</SP> has an enlarged base carrying an annular flange. A plate clamp 3<SP>1</SP> surrounds the set and telescopes into the annular space formed by the flange. A rubber buffer 12 or spring 11 is confined between the flange and the plate clamp to transmit the pressure.
