Abstract

706,333. Photographic positive production by migratory transfer. ILFORD, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1952 [Feb. 2, 1951], No. 2588/51. Class 98(2) A latent image is formed in a light-sensitive silver chloride material and developed in presence of a silver chloride solvent and benztriazole or a derivative thereof containing one or more alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, amino, halogen, substituted amino; nitro or alkoxy substituents or doubly linked benz groups in the benzene ring, while the material is in contact with a receptive colloid layer carried on a support. A black or blackish blue positive image is thereby obtained in the receptive layer as compared with a brownish image obtained without use of the triazole compound. Benztriazole or its derivative may be present in the developer or the receptive layer or both. The silver chloride layer and the receptive layer may be on separate supports, squeezed together and peeled apart after development, or a single support may carry both layers with removal of the silver chloride layer by hot water washing when unhardened gelatin is used as binder, or removal by stripping if an intermediate stripping layer is present, to leave the visible positive image. The receptive layer may contain all the development substances, thus in the example it is constituted by a paper support coated with a composition comprising gelatin, benztriazole, colloidal lead selenide, hydroquinone, sodium sulphite and thiosulphate, and this is soaked in a solution containing sodium carbonate and sodium sulphite, contacted with an exposed silver chloride printing paper for two minutes and then separated to provide a negative record in the printing paper and a positive in the receptive'layer. 5- or 6-chlorobenztriazole may be used in smaller quantity.than benztriazole to produce the same result. Specifications 614,155, 654,630, 654,631 and 684,641 are referred to.
