706,267. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. BRITISH FERROGRAPH RECORDER CO., Ltd., and NIBLETT, E. H. July 16, 1952 [Oct. 19, 1951], No. 24446/51. Class 40(2). In a magnetic recording or reproducing head the effective length of the contact area 13 of the pole pieces 10, 11, in the direction of motion of the record carrier, varies across the width of the air gap 12 for the purpose of preventing the attenuation of low frequencies when the contact length of a pole-piece is commensurate with wave length. In a preferred embodiment, the contact area is approximately triangular and symmetrical. When recording two parallel tracks on carrier, the apex of the triangle is directed towards the centre of the record carrier, as shown in Fig. 4, whereby crosstalk between the two tracks is prevented or reduced. Specification 691,903 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,797.
