Abstract

705,675. Valves. VAILLANT, H., [trading as VAILLANT KOMMANDIT-GES., J.] Jan. 27, 1951, No. 2134/51. Class 135 A valve more especially for use with gas water heaters and intended to provide a noiseless flow of liquid under all conditions comprises a member passing into or through the inlet to form a tubular jet of liquid, an annular groove in the valve member for reversing the flow of liquid, and a knife-sharp throttling edge past which the liquid flows to the outlet. As shown in Fig. 1, the valve member 8, fitted with a washer 9, carries a throttling plug 11 depending into the inlet 5 and has an annular groove bounded, when the valve is open, by a spring-pressed, cupshaped member 12 having a knife-sharp lower edge. The valve seat is also formed with a sharp edge 14. At small valve openings the cup-shaped member 12 is held off its seat by liquid passing to its interior above the closure member 8, but at larger openings the closure member engages the cup to raise it. The embodiment of Fig. 4 is suitable merely as a throttling device, the closure member 8 being omitted and the member 24 forming the annular cavity and knife-sharp edge 26 being fixed to the valve spindle 21 which also constitutes the member extending into the inlet to form the tubular jet of liquid.
